I sometimes get the following error:

Reference to undeclared entity 'ndash'

How can this error be solved?

Need a little more info to help.

1. What is the URL of the news source?

2. Does it happen on all newsfeeds or specific ones?

3. What XSL are you using to transform?

4. What version of DNN is being used?

5. Private Hosted or Public Hosted (State ISP Provider)?

I found out that the source is using the HTML Sign – in its text. So that is the problem. I don't have the option to change something on this because it is a companys newsfeed. (http://www.peugeot-presse.de/rss/?rssfeed=0,1,3,4 )

I don't use any XSL and the version of DNN is 04.08.02. Version of the News Feed Module is 03.01.01.

The page is public hosted (www.club-peugeot.at) and the Newsfeed can be found in the menu "news".

It seems to me that this is a bug in the translation of XML.

Will there be an update available?

Not really the RSS Newsfeed module's issue, so looking to an update is not the answer here.  You are correct in that the feed translation is causing the issue, at least that's one view.  Now, the interesting item is that the feed purports to be an RSS v0.91 feed, and that is supported with the default DNN xsl file.  However, it includes a descriptor that is giving IE fits.  The feed will not translate properly in IE7 due to the lack of DTD support.  That same feed will translate properly in the latest version of FireFox, though.

Looking at the feed, it really is just a v0.91 feed, but that one line descriptor mentions DTDs, something I've not seen in most RSS feeds.  At any rate, you will probably need a custom xsl file to display that feed properly.  I suspect something in the language used or ISO encoding that needs to match the feed.  That &ndash character causing the issue may be something that correct ISO or language encoding will fix, or you may have to code around it.

Here's something that might interest you.  In playing with possible solutions, I found that the DTD referenced in that site's feed does not even include the entity ndash.  That's a big problem.  The reference has to be in the document referenced or nothing you do will correct this type of error.  I tested this out by copying the feed to my local test site, and changed that reference to a known DTD that includes the ndash entity, and my test xsl with a fix worked.

So, bottom line, you may be better off not using that feed, or at least trying to communicate the DTD error to that provider, so they can fix it.
