Hello everyone,

I have a site which users can upload videos to and others can download when available. Each instance of the module has a "Subscribe to RSS" Option. I want to be able to have a news reader on the main page which (preferably automatically) subscribes to all of the available RSS feeds on the site so that when ever a new video is uploaded to any school, it lists it on the home page.

I have "News Module" installed in the portal but I do not know what to do from here. I no nothing about XLS or whatever is needed.

Thanks for any and all help

The simple answer is this: go to the module that provides the rss and click the rss button or whatever it's called. This should bring your browser to show this on screen. In the address bar you'll see the link to the so-called rss feed. Copy this link.

Now, in the news module click 'edit feeds'. Add the feed by supplying the feed you copied and you should see it on screen after. You can continue adding more feeds to the same module.

Thank you Peter,

I got a feed added once I realised there was a new version of the module available. Currently I have 422 modules I want to add to the reader. Is there any way of automatically adding all available feeds on a site?

I added one module, changed some text on it, but never had anything display in the News Module. The module I am trying to syndicate is one I created myself. Is there anything special I have to add to the module to make it compatible with RSS? Is there a time period before it will display? Is there a criteria as to what will triger a feed?

Hi,

To add feeds to the module you could devise some SQL I guess to add to the News_Feeds table.

What you have to keep in mind when making an RSS feed is to stick to the standard:

Peter,

Adding the feeds directly into SQL is a great idea and a lot quicker. I didnt even think about that, thx

The link you provided on RSS is a bit dated (Fall '02) Do you have any info on where to find a never copy of the RSS standard is has it not changed since then?

Also, I am not really worried about creating my own RSS XML. I am planning on using the default Feed option included in DNN when ever you place a new module on a page. However when I added this feed to "News Module" then made a change to the content on that module, It did not show anything in "News Module". The module I am trying to syndicate is one I created myself. My question is, How does the feed know when to triger a syndication? Does that make sense..... ? I tought that if I subscribed to the RSS for a module, the RSS automatically picks up on any change to the module. I guessing I was wrong. What do I need to add to my module to where ever else to make it list a Feed in "News Module" whenever someone uses my custom module to upload a new video?

Thank you again!
