We are using newsfeed 3.7.0 on DNN 4.03.07. We are syndicating our announcements from an announcement module (core). However, the rss/xml is cropping the description length. Is there a way to modify something so that it shows the entire description without cropping?

Thanks!!

You could take a look at what XSL file is being applied to your feed and modify that file to not trim the description.

If you aren't using an XSL file already, I would suggest using one. If you need an example of one I can dig one of mine up.

We are using an XSL file, the generic one which comes with the newsfeed module. The XML file that is generated by the announcements syndication is cropping the description so that the XML shows it is cropped. Is this related to the way the announcements module syndicates?? I think the announcements module is cropping it somehow. Has anyone else experienced this? Is this something where I need to go into the source and make changes?

This is really more of an Announcement module issue, but if you are using Announcements v04.00.01, then look to your Announcements module setup, under the Announcement Settings area.  In that area, you will find a field called 'Description Length (Search & RSS).  The default is 100 characters, but you can add or subtract from this length.  Then, you'll either have to wait for the next scheduled Search index update, or manually force the update.

If you are using an older version of the Announcements module, then you have to look at the code to change that length.  I can't remember exactly where, but there is a piece of code that does limit the text used for the description of syndicated content.  That's not a News module issue, but the Announcements and internal RSS syndication routines playing.

Hope that helps a bit.  I'd recommend updating to the latest version of the Announcements module, if you aren't already using it.

Cheers

Just to follow up on iwonder's post, to manually force the update go to the host/search admin page and choose to re-index. That should fire of the search mechanism.
