Hi,

I'm running dnn 5.1.1 and have a fully functional localhost site with two News feeds (on the home page) from internal pages......and the RSS feeds work just fine.

On moving the site to the hosting site, I get the dreaded Feed 'http://www.careers45.co.za/JobSeeker/CurrentJobs/tabid/89/moduleid/488/RSS.aspx' could not be loaded. Error: Download error.

Ok, so I go and verify that I can view the content in a browser, and the content is ok.

I then go an an run tests on my feeds using WC3 Feed Validation Services (http://validator.w3.org/feed/) and I get the following as a result:

Sorry

This feed does not validate.

  • line 1, column 1334: guid values must not be duplicated within a feed: http://www.careers45.co.za/JobSeeker/CurrentJobs.aspx (3 occurrences) [help]

    ... reers45.co.za/JobSeeker/CurrentJobs.aspx

Jobs ...
                                                 ^

In addition, interoperability with the widest range of feed readers could be improved by implementing the following recommendations.

  • line 1, column 360: Email address is missing real name [help]

    ... ght>

Jobs </ ...
                                                 ^
  • line 1, column 2262: Missing atom:link with rel="self" [help]

    ... JobSeeker/CurrentJobs.aspx

                                                 ^

I then run a WC3 Markup Validation check (http://validator.w3.org/) and get this result:

This document was successfully checked as well-formed XML!

So now what.....I'm lost.......I have searched everywhere and can't for the life of me find something concrete to correct this problem. It looks like it's been a sore point for more than a year as there are tons of threads with this issue, but no definitive fix.......

So anyway, as a last test, I insert the live RSS feed (the one listed above with the dreaded error) into my localhost sites home page in the news feed..... and it works......now I'm even more confused (I initially thought this was a db permissions error perhaps at the hosting site....this surely rules that out)

Please any and all help would be appreciated to get this error sorted out.

Kind Regards

Dave

Hi all,

I have figured this out, and will post my situation/solution so that others in a similar position can learn from this:

My situation was that RSS feeds worked fine on my localhost set-up but I got the dreaded error as mentioned when my site was moved to the hosting service provider. After reading through my post yesterday evening, it was clear to me that if my localhost installation could publish my RSS feed from the external web service provider, then the problem could ONLY reside with the DB, ISS setting, proxy settings or something else at the service provider......and this is infact is what the situation was.

The solution to my problem was as follows:

"The issue was resolved by modifying our Firewall to route requests for careers45.co.za and careers45.com to a local IP instead of the external IP: xx.xx.xx.xxx'

So, if you have a download error, please make sure you check with your hosting service provider to make sure that the firewall is correctly configured by them.

Sorry about my rant yesterday!

Kind Regards

Dave

I have this same issue. My feed works locally, but not on the server.

This is my feed: http://teamelevatecycles.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default?alt=rss

Do I need to tell my firewall folks to let blogspot.com through??

Thanks!

It has been over a year since this thread was posted and I'm not sure anyone is going to answere but here goes, I'm still loking for an answer....... Dave, Are you saying that in order for feeds to work I would need to NAT every addres we use to a local address. I work for a very large global company and policies may prevent me from getting this accomplished. Dave D.

if the site is on the same server as the rss feed is coming from, make sure your server can access that site (try navigating there with a browser).

If not, change the hosts file so that you can reach it. Basically the rss feed can't be found because the site can't be found.

Read a detailed description of how to fix the issue here: http://chayadigital.wordpress.com/2011/07/11/accessing-feeds-on-the-same-server-dnn/
