Greetings-

I really like the Survey module, and am hoping we will start to use it more.  We had a situation where we wanted to quickly deploy a voting site, so I turned to DNN and the Survey module.  All went extremely well, except we had a few "abuses" of the system.  In order to make things easy for users, we did not require Registration and/or Logon to the portal.  We had an instance of one person clearing their cookies about 50 times to vote repeatedly for one survey, and another where a survey stakeholder spewed out a mass e-mail voting request, along with a MySpace and Facebook campaign and many non-relevant votes were received.  I performed some combobulated "discounts" on the voting in these instances by looking at the site log, but it was by no means as accurate as a secured-access survey would have been.

It would add overhead to the data storage, but I wondered if a few things could be built into the next version?
- date/timestamp of vote, stored with voting record
- some form of link to site log record or grouping of records

These are not huge priorities, but would help in creating a legitimate public survey.  A case could likely be made that we should just opt for a simple site registration and set the survey to 1 vote/registered user if we require accountability on the survey.  I at least hope this will start some discussion or feedback from others participating in the forum.

Thanks,
Mark

Thank you for the feedback.

The primary changes will be to re-architect the module to allow us to add features such as the ones you suggest without making more of a spaghetti code mess. A new team member has been added and we plan to rip the module apart and rework it in January.

After that is done we will look at the list at:

http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Products/Development/Forge/ModuleSurvey/FeatureRequests/tabid/1098/Default.aspx

and try and implement the popular requests. Your requests are good and should be added to the list so people can vote. I tried to implement some of the popular items in the last version adn I hated teh mess I was looking at that I decided not to use it.

The module was a great module when it was first created but there have been too many add-ons that were not part of the original solid foundation. You should not try to put 3 storys on a 1 story building.
