Is it possible with the Repository module (or will it be possible in the future) to both upload and download multiple documents in one action?

Basically my company needs to store scanned images of written contracts. Each file will be named using a convention along the lines of <account number>_<contract date>.tif.
These contract images could come into the system at a rate of several hundred per day. After they've been uploaded into the system, we would then need to be able to search on the documents within the repository based on the account number (for example) and bring back all the documents containing that account number as part of the file name.
Once we have a list of all of those contracts we would need to be able to download them so we could burn them to disc before sending them to a third party.
So given this type of scenario, will the functionality to upload multiple files in a batch and also to batch download multiple selected files be available in the future?
Thanks in advance for you quick response.
