Hi All,

I am a fan of the Repository module and use it on the DotNetNuke Directory with a custom skin.

I have a new requirement on PokerDIY to have a "Classifieds" type section where poker players can post their interest in looking for a game, and hosts can post their details about possibly hosting a game.

The key criteria here is that it needs to be searchable/sortable by location (Region/State/Country/City) - I can make tag clouds for each country/region but this type of data is location orientated.

I saw the sneak peak for the next version of the Repository module, and it looks awesome - however I wanted to get this up in the next few weeks - any idea if the new version could handle such a requirement?

The other option I saw was Ventrians Property Manager. I have not yet used it but I think it is badly named - it is similar to the new Repository version in that you can custom define fields and templates (I THINK) - so I may try this.

Has anyone used it or do you think I should hold out for the new Repository version?

hi Rodney,
i'm using a modified version of Ventrians Property Manger for a "community" Real Estate site for a client.  it's fantastic.!   i've got sortable (Region/State/Country/City) -- again, it works great.  but without knowing your exact requrements and without playing with or seeing the code for the new Repository module, i can't say.  but i'm sure, being a developer yourself, you can get the Property Manger to fit your needs today.

Great, that is encouraging - thanks for the prompt reply. I am installing it now locally and seeing if it fits my needs... I suppose I could always attempt to migrate the data to the rep. module when it becomes available (he said optimistically ;)

I can second this, I am releasing some new sites and after comparing Repository with Articles, Documents and Classifieds / Property Agent module, I decided against using it.. I tried and badly wanted to, but unfortunately, just didn't have the confidence in it, similar to the forums, I'd really like to use these products but it's bad enough having builds of DNN that are wobbly, then take into the mix, projects that take months and months to release, and that is not a criticism, but an observation of now, several years of being involved in the DNN framework and using it as my business model.

The structure of the Ventrian products is in line with this concept of tokenising.  And although I have noticed in some areas, there are references to the word 'property' the whole way in which Ventrian works really does give me confidence in how a module is managed if you want to push the boundaries on something.

Also worth considering is that this is a commercial product for Ventrian, so their whole approach and mindset towards it is different to one of the 'open source' nature.  I have spent months and months and almost a year waiting for things to be 'rectifed' or 'fixed' or meet a requirement I have, and this again is not a criticism of the project or product, but merely an observation from a non developer perspective, that if you cannot fix or do something yourself, then you have to wait for solutions, as you cannot jump up and down being impatient about the fact the product hasn't been released or fixed to suit your timetable.  Just because it's free, doens't mean it's ... free.. the payoff is time.

I've found the Ventrian modules are great and well supported.  The property agent module isn't a repository but it does have some outstanding features so that with a bit of clever thinking, you can modify it to suit your requirements, without being a coder, and get outstanding support from his forums.

Thanks Nina, after spending the last 2 hours playing around with it I am definitely going to use PA for my classifieds, at least until the next version of the Repository module (I do like the way Scott's modules all use inline HTML template editing). I checked out some demos and other sites using it, but no one is using Location (Country/State etc.) as a "Type" - I am suprised as I would have thought that for property it would be location focussed, but I guess very few sites cover the whole world or a whole country...  (which I have to do)...   I'll post the result here in a few days if anyone is interested.
