I have successfully downloaded the latest version of the repository module (3.01.15) to replace the version I currently have (3.01.14). However, when I try to install it on my DNN site I keep getting:

ExceptionSystem.IO.IOException: The process cannot access the file 'D:\DNN Projects\ASC-Site\bin\DotNetNuke.Modules.Repository.dll' because it is being used by another process. at System.IO.__Error.WinIOError(Int32 errorCode, String maybeFullPath) at System.IO.FileStream.Init(String path, FileMode mode, FileAccess access, Int32 rights, Boolean useRights, FileShare share, Int32 bufferSize, FileOptions options, SECURITY_ATTRIBUTES secAttrs, String msgPath, Boolean bFromProxy) at System.IO.FileStream..ctor(String path, FileMode mode, FileAccess access) at DotNetNuke.Modules.Admin.ResourceInstaller.PaDnnInstallerBase.CreateFile(String FullFileName, Byte[] Buffer) at DotNetNuke.Modules.Admin.ResourceInstaller.PaDnnInstallerBase.CreateBinFile(PaFile File) at DotNetNuke.Modules.Admin.ResourceInstaller.PaDnnInstallerBase.CreateFiles(PaFolder Folder) at DotNetNuke.Modules.Admin.ResourceInstaller.PaDnnInstallerBase.Install(PaFolderCollection folders) at DotNetNuke.Modules.Admin.ResourceInstaller.PaInstaller.Install()

What am I doing wrong?
TIA

How are you installing the module? are you using the Host->Module Definitions page?  What version of DNN? Do have the site open in Visual Studio? Maybe you have another browser open with the site open? The error is pretty clear, some other process has the .dll open so the OS can't overwrite it with the new version.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I am using the Host -> Module Definitions page to do the install. My version of DNN is 4.08.

I closed pretty much everything on my machine except for 1 IE window and tried again, got the same error.

Since I have the module installed on my site and files loaded w/in the module, isn't DNN the 1 that has the DLL occupied?

Any chance of rebooting the machine? there is definately another process that has the .dll loaded. You should have IE open with the site loaded in order to install the module upgrade, that's how it's designed to work. Is this a local dev environment? You could also look at Task Manager to see if there is some other process (IE or VS ) that wasn't unloaded. Sometimes, especially after any crashes, processes remain loaded in memory. I would suggest rebooting as the first thing to try though.

Steve -

It is my dev machine and I did reboot. After rebooting, I closed just about every process I could find running that didn't need to be running (except SharePoint). Just for grins I downloaded Process Explorer to see what would have a hold of the DLL. I tried installing the upgrade again and got the same error. Process Explorer shows w3wp.exe and "<Non-existent Process>" as having a hold of the DLL. w3wp and the other process appear to have the same ID.

Thanks.
