Hey there,

I'm a new user to DNN, but a longtime content developer/admin lite on a Classic ASP site, and have been exceedingly impressed with the system, and the Repository feature in particular. My site is going to be hosting files submitted by the admins and by registered users, but in testing we've run into an issue.

When attempting to edit a submitted but not yet approved file, OR when editing a previously approved file, the file and image paths disappear. To make issues worse, the Browse button doesn't let me type in the remote path to the server where my site his hosted. So when I click Upload, the Repository item breaks (or in the case of the unapproved file, remains unapproved). Do I need to trace back the file path each and every time to the file in order to edit something as simple as the description or title? I'm not sure what we're supposed to do, as we'd have to re-enter an item every time we wanted to edit or approve an item.

This is going to be an issue in the future, as my site admins are definately lower-end users and just need something that works with the least amount of hassle. Is there currently a plan for file paths to be restored automatically when editing or moderating repository items in the next release?

Thanks,

Alex Flagg, Crafty Games

This is definitely behaviour that I have not seen before. Are the files truly disappearing or are you assuming so because when you edit there's nothing in the textboxes? In the latest version of the Repository it should display the filename under the file textbox and the image name under the image textbox. Are you not seeing anything there?

I definately see the filenames below the box, but they aren't be repopulated in the textboxes, so when I hit upload they drop. The files remain on the server, however...it just seems like the path is broken.

I just tested it again with both approved downloads and the moderate function. The approved downloads were OK, but moderate broke when I edited before hitting Upload prior to approval - the image entered in the image field is now broken and the download link pops up a window but gives nothing.

Might the fact that I changed the default directories for approved, unapproved, and anonymous files have anything to do with it? I guess we could also approve then take the extra step to edit after it's approved but I'm still concerned.

FTR, I'm using the newest version of Repository 3.0.9, fully updated version of IE on an XP SP2 machine. I'm using the Nifty repository module, too.

Thanks!

I was just doing some testing and I think I know where the problem is but I'll have to load up the source code to verify it. I think what's happening is that when you edit unmoderated file and then click Upload the file is approved but it's not moved to the approved directory.

The best practice would be to either approve the file and then edit it or reject it and let the uploader know what they'd done wrong and why it was rejected.

That sounds about right. We'll adjust our process to work around it, but it might be a bug to keep on file for the next build. :) I look forward to any other discoveries you may make!
