Is there a skin that will allow you to upload files OR URLS (URLs without files)? Some of our resources are links to external sites; most are file. So I am trying to find a way to include both m-- uploading files and uploading links without files. I am using the default skin right now. If so, is there a way to make the URL open in a new page?

Thanks so much for any help!

Hi Bella,

The simplest way to achieve what you describe is to use HTML module. Once the text editor is loaded, click on the "Link" icon to create link.
In the pop-up windows, there are options for you to link to internal / external pages or upload a file and link to it.

Skin is basically for the layout and design of your website. You are advice not to put a link directly in skin file.

Thanks,
George

Yes, here's the recommended way to edit a repository template
1. find out which template/skin you are using, go to the module settings and look at the the "Repository Skin" setting to see which one you're using
2. go to the /DesktopModules/Repository/Templates folder and find the folder with the same name as the skin you're using
3. copy the folder
4. go to /Portals/# folder, where the # is the portal number, for example the main portal is usually "0", so you would go to /Portals/0
5. look for folder there named "RepositoryTemplates", if not found create it
6. paste the folder you copied in step 3 into the /Portals/#/RepositoryTemplates folder.
7. if you want to, you can rename to folder so both the original version of the skin and the modifed one you are about to create are available. If you just want the modifided one available, leave the name the same
8. edit the form.html file in the new version, using Notepad or any text editor
9. change  [FILE]  to  [URLCONTROLFILE]
10. if you also want to be able to select files on your server or enter URLs for the images as well, change  [IMAGE]  to  [URLCONTROLIMAGE]
11. save the form.html file

that's is, go back to your module, upload an item, you will be able to a) upload a new file b) select from an existing file on your server, c) enter a URL for the file.

let me know if you have any problems with the above steps.

Is it possible to have a hybrid of the upload and url features without having to resort to using the UrlControl?  The specific issue is that with the UrlControl, we would then have to give the users write permissions on the portal's root folder, which is a security risk.

Is there a parameter that can be set in form.xml that makes the [FILE] and/or [URL] tags not required?  That way we could potentially include both on the page.
