Form and list is a fantastic and useful module with some excellent features but once again I find myself wondering if I can find a better alternative as there still seems to be no way to make the form area look anyway like good enough for use on a website where design is important.

I do not understand why the form components have no css control?
Is this really such a big problem to implement?

The latest version allows a classic or full width but how to even define a value for classic which seems to be a function of browser width - why not the width of the content pane it is in?
Setting the Form layout config to Div and custom css seems not to be of much help.  Text boxes are still defined at the default css level so I am at a loss to understand how to deal with these?

In the end I will probably make do with these significant drawbacks as FandL still has its killer feature - easy XSLT generation but I will always look at any pages using FandL and be annoyed as they could look so much better.

Point: Bad design is everywhere but we are all also exposed to so much good design and attention to graphic detail that pages or features with elements that do not align correctly or cannot be easily spaced out just leap off the page.

Without wanting to be rude the FandL Form section looks like stuff I used to do using Netscape Navigator / HTML 2.

Please understand that I am in no way denigrating the enormous amount of work put in by Stefan and Sebastian on this module. The strength of my "rant" is directly proportional to how useful and powerful this module is and how much I want it to be graphically better.
If I had the skill I would get involved but do not.
If this was a commercial module and I had control of the form section I would buy an enterprise license.

 wah!

Hello..

Have you checked out the Form and LIst website.  There's a Feedback form in the website which may help you out.

I haven't tried to get the Form portion configured to look perty, but this may be a start for you.   -Jeff

Hi Jeff

Thank you for your suggestion.  Actually the form on that page clearly shows the same issues.
I will use it to see if I can get any information.
Reading back my original post I can see I was not so happy at the time. Of course I can wrap elements in the form .aspx in my own classes which may work.

Actually I got around this problem in my last use of FandL by choosing form only and then putting links to the form edit page on my list page so my nice xslt was not defaced by an ugly input form which does not look so bad on its own.

click click . .

Ian
