Hi all,

I am using the xml module to read / process xml sources from a cocoon server in our LAN.

I have 2 dnn installations, an older 3.03.07 and a 4.5.5 install

I have the latest xml module on each.

I am getting a timeout message returned for some requests

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
  <noData cause="Exception" message="The operation has timed out" />

(had to get the xml module to echo the result with an empty xsl file to see this) our xml feed does not generate this message.
Is this generated by the xml module?
does the module generate other error messages this way? I can find nothing about it in the docs.

my main question is: is there a way to increase the xml module wait time to avoid the timeout message and get my data?

thanks,

tomvw

Yes, the <noData XML> is generated by the XML module. It allows you to handle the errors inside your XSL script.

The module lacks a good documentation. I am waiting for somebody to volunteer.

The xml module uses the core function GetExternalRequest. It uses the Web Request Timeout setting, which is part of the HostSettings (inside proxy configuration). if it is not set, it defaults to 10000 (10 seconds).

Hi Stefan,

wow, you got back the next day! and I was off on several trips so am just getting back to this.

thanks for the information; it should help. I just hit the timeout on another xml source we have so that triggered my getting back here. Don't know why I didn't get an email when you responded.

Hi Stefan,

well, I am trying to increase the timeout in the proxy section but it doesn't seem to take. I am running:

03.03.07

I'm logged in with host priviledge, and am in the Host settings: Advanced Settings: Web Request Timeout:

I put in a number (20000 for 20 seconds) and hit the update link, then when I come back to look, it is still an empty field.

any thoughts, is this the normal behaviour? it didn't seem to increase the timeout wait on my xml url links.

thanks for your help,

tomvw

Didn't get an answer on this yet, so will try again.

I have the same problem on a DNN 4.5 setup we are running to move our sites to:  can't get the http request timeout to take a setting, or at least it doesn't seem to take anything. I enter a number as above and after hitting update the dialog box is still empty and the http request timeout does not seem to have increased at all.

any clues to help me out here?  Why doesn't the number I enter persist?
