(I wasn't sure where to post this question, so I post it here as well as in the news module. If that is not okay, please inform me.)

For our new Intranet, many of our employees requested to integrate external business data, research data, dictionaries (both business and language dictionaires), news feeds etc.Does anyone know a solution:

  • How to integrate external data (business data, news, etc.) and then ourself offering RSS feeds to our employees, so they can pick their topics and subscribe to that feeds (e.g. HR people only subscribe to HR news, while managers want to subscribe to business news and HR topics for example)
  • How to integrate dictionaries, so employees can search for terms?

Both modules, news and xml offer features that might be interesting for you.

  • News(feed) deals with RSS feeds. It is able to syndicate multiple feeds and to turn it into a new, aggregated one. You can render the output with XSL
  • XML Module works with all kind of XML which is accessible via URL or file. For example, you can query REST based sources. The Querystring Part of the url can be manipulated with context aware parameters, and you can also inject context information as parameters to the final XSL transformation.

What do you mean by Dictionary? You don't mean services like http://dict.leo.org/ende?lp=ende&p=thMx..&search=dictionary?

Sorry for the cross post, Erik. As the topic actually fits into both forums, I thought it might be okay in this case. Apologize!

Thanks for your answer, Stefan. Do you have more information on that or are there any examples, tutorials or similar, which could help us estimate if the module fits our need or we have to develop something our own or go for another module? Sample site/applications/demos which show the possibilities?

Exactly. furthermore for business terms or general dictionaries. We are a local subsidiary of a global international company, so our people use dictionaries a lot even those who are good in English. So they spend a lot of time in the internet on several dictionaries. Developing our new intranet we therefore would like to integrate that. But I just don't know how we could do this best. Are there any dictionaries with an open API?
