I'd like to see module settings options to get the XML or XSL content from database calls, as well as the current file or URI methods.  I use MS SQL's "FOR XML" clause in my XML/XSL variant module.

I'd also like to see the option to prepend and append static values to the returned data....SQL (and files received from others) don't always wrap things in the proper file version and root nodes.

could not agree more, I have enhanced this module to allow to

  • Include Portalid, ModuleID, UserID, UserName in the URL when getting the XML document on HTTP
  • Use SQL as a data source using either a stored procedure or raw XML
    • Include root wrapper - good when using FOR XML
    • Include parameters listed above in SQL statement
  • Use an XSL file or diplay the raw XML very good for debugging.  Also option to not apply a transformation to the XML and allow the displaying of the XML within the document as part of the document - i..e for dynamic XHTML

Although I'm using this module extensivly in a development my company is doing it still needs work such as

  • packaging as a distributable module
  • securing the connection string and allowing a non admin user to select from a list of sources
  • protecting against SQL injection attacks
  • restricting access to core DNN table such as the users table
  • Query a web service to get the XML document
  • Optionaly using AJAX for loading after the page load
  • etc..

If your interested I can give you want I have so far just reply to the post with your email address and we can take this off line.

I see the position of developer is available for this module it would be good to see this developed further and for a team to be engaged enough to see the potential of this module.

Mmmm .. I think that a good starting point can be the source XML module itself ... download the sample source in from http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=77052 and unpack it it's a good starting point to do the job by hand .... or you can create a new module installation using the visual studio module sample  ... you can find more info also in the DNN guide ....  ... I forgot to mention also the guide for the template in the http://forums.asp.net/1114393/ShowPost.aspx ....

regards

brunom
