I am confused by this forum module because other things (ie blog, announcement, etc) have its OWN setting which allows me to choose who (ie. all users/annonymous users/register users/tc.) can post comments

However, for this forum module, there is none (atleast none that I can see in the "forum administration").  Instead, I have to set the ENTIRE module's permission (give the users edit access to the module) in order to allow users to post.  If that okay?  I am worried by setting the entire module's permission to allow for editing, that may somehow allow user to edit my module (instead of just allowing them to post.)

in forum settings (not module settings) there are permissions per forum, but AFAIR you need to set edit permissions for all users, that shall be able to add/edit posts in one of the forums as well.
