Hey there, like many, I'm very excited about the upcoming release of the new forums.

I know there are many changes.  Is it going to be possible to upgrade from the current version and retain our current threads /role structure?  Or is it something we're going to have to try and migrate the data to the new structure ourselves?

I apologize if this has been asked already.

Thanks!

The complexity of the upgrade depends on how many forums and how you have permissions assigned. The upgrade will keep certain things such as if a forum was private or moderated but you will have to spend time after the upgrade making sure each single forum has the proper view/write permissions. As for data about posts, none of this is touched. Considering you can now copy permissions from another forum, this isn't that difficult of a task. I have done the test upgrade of this site and have been able to have the entire thing setup properly (and double checked) in under 30 minutes. It was difficult to make the transition without some time spent by administrators, but this amount of time has been minimized.
