How does the new release of the Forum module stack up against the Active Forum module? Myself, I am looking for a few features that well. active forum has but the core forum doesnt seem to.

1) Detailed email notification. the email has the contents of the post so I dont have to logon to a website

2) Mail connector. to be able to start a thread or post from my email account without loging onto a website

3) Advanced profiles

I read the new forum will have Private Messages and a user list for public view but will it have these 3 features that Active forum has?

Thanks

Mark Hollas

Mark,  do you know Active Forums protect itself from spam when it is possible to post or start a new thread from emails?   I am well aware that there is moderation feature but with thousands of spam postx to the forum it may take some time to remove these unwanted posts.

Having a portal set as verified is going to go a long way to prevent SPAM (spammers use automated tools to register and spam forums in my experience). Also, if I remember correctly, a user would have to be registered to use the email feature.

The next core forum does not have the 'mail connector', but does allow email templates to be customized per module along w/ the user of tokens which are parsed and replaced at the time of send. The emails are sent via a background scheduled task now as well.

So, 1 and 3 yes, 2 no.

Thanks for the info, I look forward to the new Core Forums v4.4.

Crispy, when can we expect it to to be available, are we looking at months or weeks?
