I've succesfully installed DNN 4.5.3 and installed the modules that came with it. I was trying the adding of pages and modules to the pages fine until the Forum Module. The moment I had it added into the content area, a red exclaimation mark came up saying someting about a connection problem to the SQL server database (mine is SQL server 2005 Express) and hinted that maybe the SQL server wasn't setup for remote login or something... please help. Thanks.

this is the error I get :

A critical error has occurred.
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)

I'm running MSSql server 2005 Express amd I've used the Surface Area Configuration to allow local and remote TCP/IP and Named pipes.

I could add other modules but just not the Forum module, which I really need... can some one please help? Thanks.

I've tried the Gallery, Wiki, blog module and they all work fine....It's just wierd that the FOrum module should report a critical error on database connection as I believe all the above modules would need to connect to database too....

The module is a 1.1 framework version, which requires an additional connection string to be set. In short, you need to have the upper connection string section of the web.config match the one a few rows down.

Thanks Crispy for the tip. I'm on weekend right now and will give it a try come Monday. I can't be sure but I thought I did see the 2 lines of uncommented connection string which are a couple of line apart to be similar. Do you know of any links that discuss about this issue with some examples of the web.config file.
