This convo is ported from ASP.NET

kodersoftware:

when i upload an attachment with spaces to a post, things go haywire.  for example, let's say my files are:

file1.doc, file 2.doc, file3.doc

i can add all of them (Browse...Add,repeat), but when i actually hit upload, only file 2.doc and file3.doc show as being uploaded.  going back in to edit creates duplicate entries for each of the files.  another time, i tried to upload like 6 files to an attachment and only 1 didn't have spaces.  thereafter, i could not modify the uploaded files whatsoever - i couldn't get rid of them, add to them - nothing.  i deleted the post, started the post again, went to upload - the freaking files were still there!  haha.  i couldnt believe it.  weird stuff.

so that's my bug report.  i'd be interested to know if the attachment uploading with files with spaces is working ok for anyone else with forum/blog (3.0.13) PA installed.

thanks!Drinks [D]

Couple things to think about here.

One of the items on the forums/blog/gallery roadmap is to use the DNN Core file manager.  This means we want to make sure what is there works but we don't want to enhance it in anyway.

Another thing is that files with spaces in the name are not the best way to have files available for download.

OK, thanks for the response.

If I understand you correctly, you're saying that in future releases of forums/blog/gallery, the roadmap says that they will adhere better to the DNN Core file manager, which does allow for filenames with spaces, uploading multiple files, and automatically synchronizes the database, etc. and all this without the system getting confused about what was uploaded.  Am I right?

As to your comment about files being better for download without spaces, you're right, but needs change depending on the environment.  My environment is an Intranet, and you know what that means: keep the user happy.  Unless the intranet is for the use of technical people who separate_filenames_with_characters habitually, it is a need that could cause the intranet to not be widely adopted.

And, while I have your attention (or anyone's for that matter), could anyone tell me what I need to do to clear the forum of all references to any attachments?  In one of my posts, i uploaded 2 files: chapter-1.html and cheesy commercial music.mp3 and now when I uploaded anything else, the screen will be like this when I hit upload:

chapter-1.html
cheesy commercial music.mp3
chapter-1.html
chapter-1.html
cheesy commercial music.mp3
chapter-1.html
chapter-1.html
cheesy commercial music.mp3
cheesy commercial music.mp3
chapter-1.html
chapter-1.html
cheesy commercial music.mp3
newfile.html
otherfile.html

I haven't gone so far as adding full text search to the database to search, but I ran a stored procedure to search for the string "cheesy" and found nothing in the whole database.

chris:

Please use the forums on dotnetnuke.com for forum/blogs and gallery specific topics.

Thanks.
