If you enable "Member List" in Forum 4.4.3, every time you use it will reset values in the core DNN "User Accounts / User Settings" module.  The issue was reported several times as a core DNN bug, but we actually tracked it down to Forum.  If you don't install Forum, or disable forum member list, the "User Settings" remain in place.  We tested the same installation with ActiveForum module, and it doesn't cause this problem.

I understand how you relate the two, however, that does not necessarily mean it is caused by the forum. Enabling the member list in the forum does one thing, it saves a module setting which is used to determine if this should be displayed. Nothing else is ever saved to alter this. I am not even sure how the two are related at all. There are no settings exposed at the portal level that would overwrite core settings.

Regardless of the origin, this is a real and very frustrating problem.  I am really glad that I found this thread because I was ready to pull my hair out trying to find the source of my core user settings always reverting to defaults.  I confirmed that it any access of the member list in the forum leads to the user settings reverting to default.  It happens every time.  My installation is DNN 4.7.0 and forum module 4.4.3.

Anyways, maybe this was fixed in DNN  4.8.0?  Perhaps it is time to uprade (anxiety rises).  :)

I can not reproduce this.  Only idea I have is that any posting of a user perhapst inlcuded some code that caused your problem?

I'm getting the same problem. What version are you running, Matthias?
