If you are a third party module developer for one of the following I would like to hear from you: Profile modules, Member Directory modules, Private Messaging modules. I am looking at opening up the forum module in future releases to an API to allow integration with the above modules. I can only do this, however, if I am able to communicate with the developers.

Please respond to this thread and/or email me AT firstname.lastnameATdotnetnuke.com. Obviously, replace this with my first name and last name.

Thanks,

Chris Paterra

Hi Chris,

I think you already know my views, but I'll state them again here:

Basically, I think the easiest way to achieve this is by using Templating, and exposing core values as Tokens. I could then use my profile image instead of the Forums avatar and link to my profile system as well as Ventrians PM system (all works off UserID). This is is the simplest and easiest, I believe, and would therefore be a good candidate. We could start by identifying regions for templating and expose these as settings. Eg. The bit where the avatar is now...

Yes, Rodney, I would agree.

Because we want a single messaging system across entire sites we find that integration of MyMessages with ActiveForums is very easy, as you suggest, via simple tokens in Templates.  No need for an API at all, or to use the messaging in core forums.  Messaging is a separate functionality and best designed as a separate module.  Same for profiles etc.

Thanks for the clear statement.
