Hello,

I've recently decided to use DotNetNuke in conjunction with the DNN Forums Module to create a portal for friends and online associates to gather.  I've extremely satisfied with the entire package and installation, administration, and content management has thusfar been a breeze.

That said, I'm having what appears to be a very ridiculous problem with the Forums Module (certainly due to a drastic oversight of my own I'm certain).  The problem is two fold, though I suspect they both hinge off one another.

First, after installation of the Forums module I began configuring the basic settings as requested and setup a few forum groups as well as a few forums within each group.  I did so logged in as the 'Host' user.  With one forum, I set it to be Role Restricted as I want some forums private to only select individuals.  I created a new Security Role (called 'Members') in the Admin panel to act as the control group for this private forum.

I then logged out and registered a new account for testing purposes (John Jacob) and gave him a 'Members' access.  When I visit the Forums logged in as John Jacob, the forum I assigned to be Role Restricted is in fact not visible (which tells me it's working correctly to some degree).  However, even under the regular forums that have no restrictions, while logged in as John Jacob, I am unable to create new posts or reply to current posts.  There isn't even the 'New Thread' option.

So my question is two fold:  1) How can I go about ensuring registered users are able to create new posts in unrestricted forums and 2) How can I set Security Role-based restrictions to specified registered users for access to certain private forums?

Thank you much for any assistance you can provide,

-GabeStah-

Edit: Nevermind!  I finally figured it out; turns out the option to 'Edit' the module does not actually mean users are allowed to edit the module settings, just their personal settings as well as make posts. Sorry!

Thanks, man.

I had the same problem and your post helped a lot. Actually the "Edit" word is misleading.
