Issue update:

I can't reproduce the bug on my development machine. The result is now I have a perfect working forum on my development machine and a broken one on the pre production server

The forum installed perfectly on a winXP box in VWD. when I enabled attachments, it made the right folder, and when user post a message with an attachment, the attachment gets uploaded to this folder.

So far so good.

When you view the post however, nothing indicates there is an attachment. I have no idea if this is a bug, or just the DNNsilver theme (I have never seen a DNN forum with working attachments so maybe I am just looking at it wrong, please enlighten me)

I'll try to minimize more differences between the two installs tomorow

Appartly you can't compile the forums without the old gallery installed.

This commes from MSbuild

Error 4 Error parsing attribute 'enableEventValidation': Could not load file or assembly 'DotNetNuke.Modules.Gallery, Version=3.0.11.3077, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified. DesktopModules/Forum/Integration/Integration_GalleryAddAlbum.aspx

It gives this error on 4 places. integration is cool but it should be done loosly and not with a reference to a specific version of an other dll

How IIS does the compiling without choking on this error is also still a mistery for me.

ISSUE SOLVED

The issue was caused by the a missing a resource key "ExceedFileSize.Text" in SharedResources when there is a maximum file size set for attachments.

During my investigation to this issue, I was delayed by these other issues

  • Files are considered to large even when they are clearly small enough to be allowed
  • "Request is not available in this context" for non admin users (sindce I solved the attachment issue)
  • Unable to use the forums in VWD without the gallery because of compilation issue

First, these modules were integrated long before this was a project. Eventually, a goal is to remove this integration but we only have so much time here.

As for compiling, both projects are only setup for 1.1 development, and in that case the Gallery project is not required and all that is required is the dll which is included.

Cripsy

if you use the VWD starter kit for DNN4, run it once and install the forum package (the binairy one)

close your browser

hit run again in visual webdeveloper

it WILL NOT compile and run again, you will get that MSbuild error, please do not forget that aspx/ascx pages have to be compiled as well
