We are going to create a “Buy and Sell” group, and there are many different subject forums inside the group. We need to have some automatic controls for the posting threads, such as

  1. Post expire date: a thread should be automatically deleted in two weeks.
My understanding is that there is no such function built in the Forum module. Is it possible that a SQL procedure can be used to perform this task in database side? I tried to delete a thread but left an error. The post has been deleted but count in the forum level still remains the same. It seems that a cascading deletion is need to remove a posting correctly. Can someone suggest a better solution?
  2. Lock: no one can reply a post.
I know that users can set the “Lock” when they post a thread. Is any default “Lock” setting in forum or group level? It means any thread inside a forum or group will be automatically “Locked” after posting?

Many thanks in advance.

You could write your own addOn for this feature.  About how to delete a post with a spoc you can check the existing procedure in the database.  If a post is locked there is no chance to reply a nother post for the complete thread.

Hi Matthias, thanks for your reply.

I don’t know how to write AddOn.
I was trying to find the stored procedure in the database but failed. I could not find a proper one because of the parameters. In my case, the date is the only variable and group ID is fixed. I am not so sure what the cascading deletions need to be included, so I am not able to write my own procedure.

If there is a procedure, I will set a schedule and have it run automatically every day at 12 am.. This is what I am planning to do.

Would you please provide me more detailed information? Thanks very much.

ucann:

I would also like to be able to purge off Posts and/or Threads that are "expired".  I would like to purge any that are older than 1 month.

Have you found any resolution?

Thanks.

There is no support to pure or expired Posts/Threads in the Module.  As I know there is also at time no plan to integreat this feature.
