I have a couple of forum posts that are now stuck in the system, and I'm not sure how to get them out.  I'm running a mixed-mode authentication system with both DNN accounts and AD accounts.  Thousands of the accounts were created by AD with no e-mail address (student accounts), which is what started the problem.

When I attempted to delete some especially obnoxious posts, it "required" that I send an e-mail response.  Since those accounts don't have an e-mail address, DNN errored out with a message saying something like "to line cannot be blank", and returned to the same screen.  I kept getting the same error regardless of which "delete" option I chose, and I certainly wasn't going to "approve" the post to get off the screen, so I used the menus to change screens.

So, every time I check for posts to moderate now I get a listing of two forums that have posts awaiting moderating.  If I click on either one, it does nothing, I cannot even view the messages, it stays on that menu.  The posts are stuck in limbo, and I have no idea how to get them out of them.

This seems like a bug to me, it should check for an empty address line to avoid a situation like this.

Dan, I understand your situation but I have to disagree with it being a bug but only at this point. One of the required items in DNN is email address. The majority of the core framework is tied to a dependancy of this being there. The only bug I see here in terms of the forums is that it should check anyways to make sure the email address is there and if not continue anyways.

Sorry my post wasn't clear enough, checking for an e-mail address was the bug I was referring to.  But I see why you didn't put that in there.  If one is "supposed" to be there, then why would you have to check?

That brings up an interesting point though, I wonder if this is related to some of the other problems I'm experiencing...  The AD module allows you to create accounts "without" an e-mail address, so I have thousands of them now.  I'll have to write a script that fills in the e-mail address with a dummy one wherever it is blank and see if some of the other issues dissappear.

The question now is how do I get rid of those posts?  They show up in the list of forums having posts to moderate, but I can't get any further.

Until I can get another release out, I think your best option would be to run a script that sets is approved = 1 and set the time to GetDate(). This will need to be run with a proper WHERE clause against the Forum_Posts table. You will also have to view the Forum_Threads table to update PostsToModerate count (int) and look over both tables to make sure I didnt' forget anything.
