This seems to be a basic question but I could not find instructions on this topic. BTW, will it be possible to use the VS2005 express? Any other free environment?

All compiled (WAP) modules needs at min. a VS Standard version.  I hear the SP1 of VS 2008 Express should include WAP, but I didn't know it realy.  More information how to build generall modules for DotNetNuke you could find on http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Support/Documentation/DownloadableFiles/tabid/478/Default.aspx  and some more for the Forum module on www.dnnforums.com .

Thank you Mathias. I did not read the two-part manual because I'm not interested in writing my own module but rather make a few minor changes in the existing one. So I installed VB 2008 SP1 Express and tried to open file DotNetNuke.Forum.sln. I did not succeed, getting the good old message:

The project file 'N:\DotNetNuke.Forum.vbproj' cannot be opened.
The project type in not supported by this installation.

So I guess that this is it.
