Hi,

I am using an RSS feed of the Forum to display a 'teaser' to the forums on pages. I am using the Core Forums and Core RSS reader.

Bizarely, I am having problems with messages that contain links. In the forums they appear fine, but in the RSS feed a mysterious Hit Me button appears.

Any ideas on why and how to avoid this? I don't know if the problem is with Forums RSS feed or the RSS reader.

btw - I assume this is the only way to get Forum teasers on other pages. If their is an add-on module I don't know about, please let me know.

You can see an example of the problem here - providing the forums don't change too much.

Thanks

Liz

Hi Liz

I can't recommend OWS (OpenWebStudio) highly enough for this sort of thing.

It's free and OpenSource, and you can find a sample config to do this here.

We use it for everything displayed on the sides of our website, and a lot of the content too.

Let me know if you need a hand or anything!

Cheers

David

hi David,

Thanks for your reply, Looks really complicated. Whilst I have setup the site, my technical skills are limited to installing skins, modules and creating the pages. I would need a real dummies set by step guide as to how to do that. Do I have to compile or do anything complicated to set it up? Or is it like installing a PA?

I have to say, I have found my current RSS solution a real pain as it doesn't work anywhere near the way I want it to (e.g. links link to the forum home page, not the thread mentioned, and the latest new threads are used, not the threads with the latest posts. I also would like to be able to RSS a particular forum, not just all forums, which I don't currently seem to be able to do.

Thanks

Liz

PS just looked at your site - very nice. If it is possible for me to get OpenWebStudio working, that would be FAB :-)

Hi Liz

It is initially installed just like a PA, and then placed on a page just like a normal module.

Modules are then set to a configuration which you create (or import) in the OWS Administration - a link also from the module when its placed on a page.

I am also from a non-programming background, and apart from OWS can't do much more than you, though learning and understanding some basic SQL is invaluable.

I know it might seem difficult at first and I remember a forum post that was a good start on this.  Happy also to walk you through a bit of it, plenty of times others have helped me! Feel free to drop me a line - david.toohey75@gmail.com

Will be able to get you right on track with it then!

Thanks - you are a star :-)

Just downloaded install and will have a go at installing the PA later today and come back to you.

Thanks

Liz
