Tom, I already moved the module to a 5.2 core base. At minimal the installer is already converted to 5.x format. I am not trying to 'leave' sites behind but DNN 5.x has been out for almost a year now and I figured with the Telerik dependency it was time to move on.

Chris,

I surely understand that it is necessary to go on in software developement and to cut certain things over the time. I am in the software business as well for quite a time now.

I know this is an open source project, and I know you are not getting money for all your efforts.

There is one thing I don't understand: you have released a major update last year. It is more then unlikely that it is not necessary to provide bug fixes for this version. But instead of simply providing a bug fix version based on the last release you go on on working on another new version (which cut's compatibility).

Looking back into the histroy of this project this situation is not new. People had asked for a bug fix release and got a complete new version "some" (lots) of time later. Of course that new version fixed lot of old problems but also introduced new features with new problems.

Please don't get me wrong. I don't want to blame you nor do I want to decrease the honar you deserve for your project.

This is just a request for a "2 track development". One track is the latest cutting edge of technology version. The other track is a bugfix track based on the source code version of the latest release. This track will never get any new features implemented, just bugfixes.

Do you think this would be possible ?

The emotions in this forum went quite high in the forum last year as you remember. With providing bugfix releases you are able to get completely rid of this. Everyone's happy having a beautiful forum module with (more or less) no bugs, knowing that there will be a nice new version coming up some time in the future, with fantastic new features. No one will complain about the time you need to implement it, because in the meantime you are able to help them out with their problems.

I would offer my assistance on working in your team as developer if I would have a little bit more knowledge in ASP.Net. So the only thing I can do is to kindly ask you to think about my suggestion. I am sure there are lot's of people arround who would love to have it that way.

All the best for you,

Tom.

Hello Sebastian,

yes I know that. But from Chris' statement it was obvious that the Telerik provider is the reason for cutting compatibility to older dnn versions. I guess I have to figure a way to get my server updated. Unfortunately all attempts in the past ended in strange error messages and I never found time enough to fight them down till the end.

Thanks for your reply!

Tom.

Tom, sorry, obviously I overlooked the previous post from Chris (it became a bit more difficult tracking the forums during the past weeks). I feel your pain, all our (and our clients') production sites are running on DNN 4.9.5 as well, mainly due to localization needs.

Cheers from Germany,
