First I want to say that it is very difficult to get information here and on Activemodules.com. I do not like asking questions that may have already been answered. But I am tired of trying to find the needle in the hay stack on this.

I currently run Active Forums 4.2.5 on DNN 6.01.02.

I want to know if the newer beta of the forums module will upgrade this version of AF. If not is there a migration tool from this version of AF to the latest?

Finally what is the latest version of DNN that 4.2.5 will run on.

I'll ask this over at Activemodules as well.

Thank you for any information people!

Dale,
I understand getting information about Active Forums, or even a response, is difficult. I can only tell you what I know;

The module is now open source and available on codeplex (activeforums.codeplex.com).
Version 5.0.1 is released for DNN 6.2 however several key issues have been reported.

IIRC the only "migration" required was back around Active Forum 3.7 going to 4.x

Regarding previous versions - there doesn't seem to be any path other than upgrading for that. My experience is that Active Forums upgrade work just like any other module...no need to migrate, just upgrade.

Thanks for replying. I meant to delete this thread because of the typo but... So you had no issue upgrading to 5.0.1 with your existing 4.x content?

How do you feel about the upgrade? Have you lost any features or gained any good ones?

I've been doing a lot of work trying to get my site ready to move over to DNN 6.2 and Active Forums 5.0. The upgrade process worked fine for me with one major exception: I had to delete all of the Group & Forum settings using SQL before it would display any topics. There is a thread about how to do this on the AF codeplex site.

So far it appears that it's running ok for the most part. The integration with the 6.2 social features works well, but there are some annoying bugs like the Active Topics list not working properly.

As I understand it, it runs on DNN 7 as well, but there are some show stopper type bugs.

The DNN forum situation is extremely frustrating right now.

I would pay a lot for a commercial forum module that had good support, 6.2+ social integration and the ability to import all of my existing Active Forum data. As far as I know, no such module exists.
