Is the core DNN Forum module the ActiveForums module?

I've used DNN off and on over the years.  I had a license for ActiveForums, and Dnn had its own core forum module with basic functionality.  I'm just not clear if all the extra functionality of ActiveForums is part of the core DNN Forums

No, they are not the same.

The DNN Forum module (which is what this site uses) is no longer being actively developed.

After DNN Corp. acquired Active Modules they released Active Forums 5 as an open source project on CodePlex: https://activeforums.codeplex.com/

AF 5 is still being actively developed. It integrates with the DNN core social functionality and we've recently added some great features like compatibility with the Tapatalk mobile client.

If you have questions about Active Forums, please ask them on the CodePlex project page or on http://www.activeforums.org

Thanks I will definately check it out and jump into the discussions over there.

Just an opinion... but it seems odd that after spending the money to acqure, there is little to no reference to ActiveForums on the DNN site...
Considering vBulletin makes a good penny in the space, and there is demand... just seems like the free module features would be more prominently featured.  Or maybe I just missed the reference.

I don't disagree.

Promotion of / Contribution to open source DNN modules on CodePlex has been a hot topic lately.
