From looking here things really seem a bit everywhere compared to the past.

DNN Core forums now left to die... whilst ActiveForums seems to be getting pushed mostly though I can't even find a clear features list and not sure if there's a paid for version that will contain more features and continue to be supported.

I know YAF is also an option, though slightly more fiddly to first install but also looks like a new version hasn't been released for years.

Is there any DNN integration forum module out there that can allow anonymous posts for registered users?

Working on some big projects and it all seems to be turning quite chaotic.

There is no longer a paid version of active forums. After DNN Corp. purchased Active Modules, Active Forums 5.0 was released as an open source project on CodePlex. AF 5 requires DNN 7 (there is a 5.0.3 release that works on DNN 6.2.X, but that branch is no longer being actively developed).

There are a few people (myself included) who are actively working on the project. Unfortunately, we don't have a complete feature list/roadmap put together yet

If there is a specific feature you are looking for, I can probably tell you if it supports it or not.

It does support most basic forum functionality and includes integration with DNN's core social functionality (though group forums are still a work in progress). It also has support for the Tapatalk mobile client.
