Can someone confirm these two issues:

1) In the stats area at the bottom of the Forum Module -- I've enbled What's New and the period of time that posts are shown in the scrolling box is "Today". What is interesting about this is that on my example system I've set in my User Profile th "Whats New Tracking Duration" to "Past Week". I assumed that the user profile setting is used to change the default for the scrolling box in the stats area.

2) It appears on the surface that not all of the scrolling message boxes are drawn the same for some reason. Is this differance in design meant to tell us something about the message? The appears of the message boxes of concern have two vertical lines on each side of the last line with the link button with no horizontal line.

Also, I have one suggestion:

1) For each scrolling message boxe can you include ALT text over the link buttons like "Click here for ...". I would make this a general comment for all of the links in the Forum and further even expand this idea to the full DNN UI. Is it possible to make this configurable?

Thanks....

I have no intention of keeping the What's New module up. I plan on removing it completely from this module and making it into its own module that follows rules based on module settings and having nothing to do with user preference.

Can you explain in more detail why you want a seperate module? In addition, even if it is a seperate module I could see that the module could look up the user pref from the profile.

Hal,

There are actually a few reasons for this. I am not sure if you are aware of the history of this module, but when I started developing it the what's new was baked in to the initial view much as it is now. I immediately found a couple things wrong with this but other items remained focus to me first.

The What's New actually being a part of this module requires more processing than if it is not. Even if the feature is disabled, there are still several checks in place to see if this is the case. The Forum User object is also forced to carry around settings for this no matter if it is enabled or disabled. This adds overhead to this object anywhere it is used.

Another point is that I feel the module should be able to be placed anywhere on the site (see my what's new mod now as an example) and the way modules work too I feel it is better to seperate this so the web admin/designer can determine where on the page they want this.
