Hello, I am a new DNN user developing my first portal.  I have added the forum module version 3.20.06 on a DNN 4.0.3 site.  I have been adding various forums throughout the site as host (...is this a bad idea?).  I have granted edit writes to Registered Users.  However when someone adds a post it seems to go fine until they save.  The record that is shown seems to have corrupted layout and the "Text" of the post and the "Edit, Delete..." control buttons are gone.  So you can't see the post or move it.

I have cross checked my permissions.  Registered Users can modify Page, Module and Forum.  Am I using the wrong versions?

Can someone guide me in the right direction?

Thanks,

This version of the module and the version of the core are not compatible. I would move to DNN 4.3.4 and forum 3.20.08. This problem is because of changes around the users API.

Thanks Crispy,

I can't move forward to 4.3.4 yet because I use a DNNMasters module that hasn't been updated yet.  Can I go backward?  To which version?

Thanks in advance,

Mike

There is currently no way to 'rollback' without rolling the entire site back. I am looking at various options to get around this DNN restriction in the future. Like, checking to make sure current dnn version meets a module requirement of a specific core version or greater, otherwise I will stop install. (Hopefully via core change). The other option is to work out the IPortable interface. The problem here is this is quite an overwhelming task I am not ready to take on alone yet.

I am currently using a module from DNNMasters for sharing Users between Portals.  They don't have a 4.3.4 version yet so I have to stay with 4.0.3.   I have definitely learned that you have to be careful with which custom modules will work with which version of DNN.

Now, in trying to get my site up to date I have used the latest versions of the core modules,  I have learned that there is no internal control to keep from using imcompatable versions of modules,  yet going back and re-reading the documentation for the Forum and I was not able to find any guidance on not using the latest version of the forum with a specific version of DNN.  Now I am caught between two versions with a site that doesn't work and you are telling me that the only way is to roll my entire website back...

Should I just give up and move to Active Forums.  They say their version works with 4.0.3 and 4.3.4.  Is that true or am I just looking for my next bad meal?
