I have a single installation of DotNetNuke installed that hosts several portals.  As a general rule, I tend to create my user accounts with the same name (chadboettcher) in the portals that I need to be a member of.

I just created another portal yesterday and set up a Forums module for the new portal (using the administrator account for the portal).  I then registered for the site using my standard user name (chadboettcher) and I then navigated to the forum page with the Forum module installed and I discovered that I was already the most active user with 15 posts.  I found out that it is using the same profile I have set up on another portal (within the same database).  Is this the intended functionality?  I would think that when the module looks for users is should also take in the unique portal ID as well to distinguish users from one portal to another.  Has anyone else encountered this?

The module uses moduleID and tabmoduleID.  The only place there would be any descrepency is statistics.  This is only because we have to plan it out a bit better.

So, at this point, it is by design?  I wonder how current forums will be affected if this is corrected in the future, the "shared" user will cease to exist within the context of the current forum/portal.  I looked at a few of my other portals and discovered a third forum that shares my profile.

Allow me to attempt to clear this up a bit.  There are different things here to consider.  We have one portal w/ a single forum, one forum with a single master portal but it is shown on several pages (via group), multiple forums in a single portal, one forum in multiple portals and other multiple portal use cases.  This means we have about 4 use cases to consider for everything.

First, everyone needs to understand that anytime a single user is shared among portals, they are also going to be shared in the forum module.  If it is the same userid, it is definately the same user even if in seperate portals.  I think in most stastical places there has been attachment to moduleID.  This means that most stats will display proper accept the one held in the footer. (Because it hasn't been too much of a concern for me yet)

This also means that the exact same profile is used among multiple portals and that this needs to be investigated even further.
