Hello, hope someone can help me with this . . . the error messages look pretty hairy . . .

I've successfully installed the Forum module. I've added it to a new page. The elements of the Forum module show up on the new page. All the buttons seem to work (at least yielding a proper-looking page) . . . EXCEPT the "My Settings" button.

Clicking on the "My Settings" button gave me these error messages:

An error has occurred.

Does anybody has any idea what's going on? And how to fix this?

Thanks in advance!

JC

This happens when your webcontrols version is older than the one that the module was built on. The module is meant to run on DNN 4.3.5 or greater (or 3.3.5 if you were using asp.net framework 1.1)

Thanks so much for your reply, Crispy!

Yes, my client had their web site built on DNN 4.0.3.  Bummer!!!

Since I am a newbie at DNN, please pardon the following question . . .
Is it possible to upgrade to DNN 4.3.5 without messing up my client's existing web site?

Or to phrase my question in another way . . .
How will upgrading to DNN 4.3.5 affect my client's existing site (which is working very well)?

If upgrading is not a good idea, is there a work-around or adjustment to the module code that I can implement to make this Forum module work with DNN 4.0.3?

Thanks so much for your expertise!
JC

It ultimately depends on if they did any customization and installed modules. If they haven't customized anything that is one step closer. The other is what modules becuase there was an API change.

If the modules can all be upgraded and you can backup the database and the filesystem I would go for the upgrade to 4.3.6 which was just released today and have bug fixes and a couple nice enhancements.

Thanks, Crispy!

I don't know at the moment whether my client had made any customizations . . . they did have a few customized modules.

Sigh . . .
