Just wanted to see if the ClientAPI is the right place to start.

We have two modules on a tab. Property listing module and a google map module. I want those module to interact in real time. When a search is executed a list of properties appear on the page - that list should be passed to the map module to display on map. When you click on a listing it will take you to the listing detail page and the map module should refresh and display the map for that particular listing only. To take it even further we would like for the map module not to display when you initally click on the page (map module will only display when a search is executed or when a detailed listing is called).

It all depends on whether or not you wish to have them communicate on the client-side or server-side.  DNN has had Inter-Module Communication (IMC) for a long time.  If you answer is server-side then I suggest researching that term.  If your looking to communicate on the client, then I suggest having a look at my OpenForce session resources, as it contains a module sample demonstrating a way to do this.  While there you will also see a set of links/videos for some new templates I am going to be offering.  At this point, there is no easy way to get the ClientAPI/WebControls beta (which the templates require), however, this will soon change.

Intuitively I feel like we need to use client side to provide a better user experience. Are there any guidelines what should drive this decision?

I like the module sample. Is there a way to “hide” the profile module and display it only after a selection is made?

I guess the guideline that I follow is if you can do it on the client, then start there, as it will be more efficient. 

To have the profile hidden would simply require not showing the module's container.  Then in the client-side javascript you would show/hide the containing div when appropriate.

So in order to use your framework we need to get the ClientApi beta and use the ajax template from your forum signature link?
