Hi,

As our culture portal will target European countries, our project requires a dynamic multilingual support for all items in three languages: English, French and German.

Registered users will access the portal interface according to their language preferences, and also localized information (such as news and events).

In this context, we are evaluating the DNN framework to help us speed up our development. Note that the portal project is non commercial.

Is there any particular constraints in the core DNN that will stop us to use it for our project?

Thanks for your assistance

Yes, there is. The core of current version of DNN only has very basic multilingual support. In fact, all the core modules' contents (such as html/text module) that are stored in DB are just for 1 language.

Thanks for your answer.

We already have analyzed alternatives such as the ML packages proposed by Bring2Mind. The problem is that such solutions are replacements (superseding) of modules and functionalities provided at the core level of DNN (Skin management in the case of Bring2Mind) and we are worried about ascending compatibility problems with future release of DNN. For instance, their solutions are dedicated to the version 3.2.2, not version 4.

Our point is to understand if there are any interests in your team to extend the functionalities for true multilingual support at the framework level? In this case, our team will be happy to be involved in such effort.

There are solutions available that do not impact the core, or that are available for both dnn 3.x and 4.x. Currently Locopon and myself are the most active in supplying localization solutions. You can find more info about Locopon here: http://dnn.tiendaboliviana.com/Web/ and about me here: http://www.apolo-software.nl

cheers,

erik
