Thanks for the response Sebastian and Alejandro!

You’re correct that this is experienced on a DNN 5 installation (clean installation, no upgrade).
I tried to replace the resx files from the DNN 5 installation package. That fixed the problem with the missing ‘buttons’ names, and formatting. But we still had the problem, described above, in the ‘Hosts -> Languages’ screen.
So we tried to install the package I received from Alejandro, but the problem in the Language screen continued. We then replaced all resx files from the DNN5 installation package again, and that seems to have fixed the problems we experienced in the Language screen.

After playing around a bit I see that the ‘Default Language’ drop down, in the Site Settings screen, is empty/blank. Same for the ‘Preferred Locale’ drop down in the ‘Manage Profile’ screen. I suspect that this was an issue before we did the changes mentioned above in this post.

Any ideas and suggestions on how to troubleshoot this further is most welcome.

Thanks.
Kenneth

Hi Kenneth,

I am glad to have been of help for you. Regarding your 'empty' dropdowns, I see both of them filled with 'English (United States)'. So it seems that maybe you should try starting over again.

If you are intending to put a production site 'on the air', I suggest to work with DNN v4.9.2 which is very much stronger and tested than the new v5.x breed. On the other hand, version 5.0.1 is about to come out in one or two more weeks, and I am keen to see it working.

One important thing: The DotNetNuke community is very productive and you will see a new version of DNN being released with a frequency of little more than one month. That is impressive and at first sight may sound exaggerated, but it is just about like I tell you. It won't take long until versions starting with a 5 will be more attractive to use and versions starting with a 4 will look old and gray. So, it may be a good idea to keep yourself updated with the 'look and feel' of versions 5.x. :-)

Best of lucks. Saludos,

Alejandro.

I also am experiencing the blank Default Language boxes in DNN 5.0.0. Frustrating because this missing parameter has caused the application to throw other errors from not having a value here.

Hello,

I had the same issue and resolved it with the following steps

  • Confirm your Root Folder Security either ASPNET or NETWORK SERVICE (Apply to subfolders)
  • Go ADMIN - LANGUAGES
  • Under Available Locales if your Langauge is not selected, click the dropdown and select the language
  • Select Edit Language and then
  • Select Enabled
  • Now if you go ADMIN - SITE SETTINGS - Advanced Settings - Other Settings - Default Language (Should be correct)

regards

Warren
