 Hello!

I would like to move language pack from one portal to an other, but the translated language pack has no content. See the steps detailed below:

  • On the portal, I would like to move the package from has several sub-portals. I log in as a host and go to the subportal, where we made the translation. I go to Administrator / Languages.
  • In the Language Editor, If I choose the English, I can see the content of the Language files. If I choose my language (Hungarian), I also can see the Hungarian translation of the language files.
  • I choose 'create language pack'.
    • If I select english, the downloaded files do have content (Local Resource folder and .ascx files).
    • But if I chose Hungarian language (which I checked that it is translated), and create a pack, the downloaded files do not have any content (only a Manifest.xml file)

Please, help me, how to solve this problem. Many thanks!

  • To create a new language pack or modify a language pack, you need to use Language Editor in Host menu and select "system" mode.
  • if you created language pack in portal or host mode, you need to rename all created resource files, and remove .Host or PortalID. use the Resource Verifier, to ensure, the resource files are complete.

Hello Gergo,

I have some experience how localization works both DNN 4,5. (static and content) I don't now you have intent to contribute language pack or not
but we can work together as i am Hungarian too. As far i know the latest language pack is fairly outdated (04.03.04) and it is quite a big work to update.

Xeon

Thank you for the info. I managed to test, how to translate and move a language pack in the host menu.

The problem is:

  • The translation is 'visible' when I navigate to a sub-portal and go to administrator/languages menu, and choose language editor. (If I choose Hungarian language, I can see the content in hungarian).
  • Contrary to the fact above, I experience that in the host menu (host / language / language editor) if I choose hungarian language, the translation is not visible.

according to these things the sub-portals' admin translation and host translation are not stored on the same place.

So the question is that where does the Host translation and the sub-portals' administrator translation are stored? I should copy the sub-portals' admin translation somewhere/somehow to be visible in the host menu. Then I'll be able to create a language pack from the host menu.
