Hello,

I am beginning development of a site that will support five "languages."  I put languages in quotes because some pages will appear or disappear depending on the language.

The languages are:

  • English - US
  • English - UK
  • French
  • Spanish
  • German

My question at this point revolves around selection of Language Packs and the version of DotNetNuke that I will use.  I would like to start with 5.1.1.  Will I run into problems because it looks like most language packs are at 4.9.x?  What's the best advice here?

  • en-US is included in any version
  • en-GB should be a language record only, using fallback to EN-US (all versions)
  • fr-FR seems to be availabe for DNN 4.9.1 only (www.dotnetnuke.fr)
  • es-SP seems to be available for DNN 4.9.2 only (www.dnncastellano.com)
  • de-DE is available for DNN 4.9.3 and DNN 5.1.0 (www.dnn-usergroup.de), I currently pause with core translations until tool support will improve again

Any DNN 4.9.x language pack will run with DNN 4.9.4 with only very few words in translation missing.

Any DNN 4.9.x language pack will run with DNN 5.1.x, but there will be a number of English words still show up.

French language pack for 5.X (currently in beta -- being revised) can be found at http://traduction.dotnetnuke.fr/

Thanks for the help.

So, if I understand correctly, I should be able to use the 4.9.x language packs, and then correct missing or changed elements as I find them?
