I am coding a website that will support many languages in both content and users.    One of my concerns needs an expert to answer.   I will have everyone entering their address into the system.   I am looking to figure out what the country code and region code content will be.  Scans (SQL by me in the code) will later be done by anyone of all people in a particular country.   If I am storing this address in my own table, what unicode data is being stored for country code and region of their local language (say worst case - they are Japanese or Chinese).   Commonly on other websites these characters show up as boxes, which means the contents of the country code for japan in english may not equal the country code for japan in japaneese, which means the search will fail??  So how is this stored?  How do I get around this?  Or, do I not even have an issue?

Thanks for your Help,
Paul

I was surprised no one responded to this. With further exploration into the DNN code, I find that the countries are hard coded in english in an internal list. There is absolutely no support for foreign language support in this list. In otherwords, what I am looking to do can not be done as part of the DNN Core (05.04.02). I will have to code the country list on my own and bypass the core. I will code all countries with one base langauge (English) so they can be compared/searched, and include translations for the countries in every other language I will be using (in my case about 16). Not pleasent, but since DNN didn't code it, I have no choice. In the future, should someone notice that the DNN Core has changed this logic (CountryLookup), simply reply to this message with that fact so that everyone else will know. Paul

country is taken from a dropdown list, which is provided by the core and unfortunately not necessarily up to date - and english country names are stored instead of ISO values. Regions are provided as dropdown list, if there is a list available for this country, by default this is included for US and Canada only. Again, region is stored by name.
