Patrick, ML support for Admin and Host menus in DNN uses static resources with specific names, which is usually not a solution for custom menus. Starting with DNN 5.5, DNN includes "Content Localization", i.e. support for language specific pages. I strongly suggest testing the new feature on a dev installation first, enabling the new feature cannot be reverted!

Will definately try it out in our testenvironment first! But, in order to actually test it, I (and probably others as well) need to know what the new features actually are and what they do, and I have not been able to find this information so far, thus me asking for some kind of technical desciption of the new features.

At this stage the best source of information on the new Content Localization features is this forum, however, you will find out more by asking more specific question.

I suggest you will find out a lot for yourself by following the steps outlined below:
  • create a test DNN5.5 instance
  • enable a second language (Admin menu -> languages)
  • install a core language pack for the language you enabled
  • add a test page put some content in the default HTML module that it contains
  • go to the Localization Settings section in page settings and experiment with the page published and module translation controls you find there
Note that the static parts of the page (admin / host menus, footer text etc) are currently localized according to the Preferred Location setting in your user profile. The dynamic content is localized when you click on the language selector. This can be a bit confusing at first if you're used to working with localized sites in previous versions of DNN.

Hope that helps.

Installation of 5.5.0 went spotless. Then I went to my host site. It came up in Khmer. I tried to click the US flag but I couldn't because it indicated that English was selected. Clicking the Cambodian flag brought up the Khmer page again and only then was I able to switch to English.

So it is back to 5.4.4, the last stable version of DNN. The newest version is more like a public beta release, for us multi-language sites at least.

I also noticed that a small change in the design of the national flags had messed up my skinn. I'll be able to fix it, but still... Are there any new options to the language selector object? I'd like to get rid of the flag for the selected language instead of it having a border and adding 4 pixels to both width and heigth..

Marc, please be aware that in DNN 5.5 the language selector cannot be used to switch static language items like labels and help texts. Registered users will need to adjust preferrred language in their user profile, unauthenticated users get language from browser or portal default language displayed. If you want to enable them to switch static language again, I suggest creating an extended language selector control.

I know that, I've read through the forum. The problem is that my users don't know that and they may experience unexpected results. From the user experience point of view, this is a bug.

I like the idea as an option, not enabled by default. It would enable me to go through the Khmer pages while still having my English menus, wouldn't it? But for unexpecting users, it is far better if the static text switches with the language selected with the language selector.
