I am running DNN 04.09.02.  Language is not working. When I click on the Canada French Flag I get

An error has occurred.
DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.PageLoadException: Conversion from string "0.3" to type 'Double' is not valid. ---> System.InvalidCastException: Conversion from string "0.3" to type 'Double' is not valid. ---> System.FormatException: Input string was not in a correct format. at Microsoft.VisualBasic.CompilerServices.Conversions.ParseDouble(String Value, NumberFormatInfo NumberFormat) at Microsoft.VisualBasic.CompilerServices.Conversions.ToDouble(String Value, NumberFormatInfo NumberFormat) --- End of inner exception stack trace --- at Microsoft.VisualBasic.CompilerServices.Conversions.ToDouble(String Value, NumberFormatInfo NumberFormat) at Microsoft.VisualBasic.CompilerServices.Conversions.ToDouble(String Value) at DotNetNuke.UI.Skins.NavObjectBase.AssignControlProperties() at DotNetNuke.UI.Skins.NavObjectBase.InitializeNavControl(Control objParent, String strDefaultProvider) at DotNetNuke.UI.Skins.Controls.SolPartMenu.OnInit(EventArgs e) at System.Web.UI.Control.InitRecursive(Control namingContainer) at System.Web.UI.Control.InitRecursive(Control namingContainer) at System.Web.UI.Control.AddedControl(Control control, Int32 index) at System.Web.UI.ControlCollection.Add(Control child) at DotNetNuke.Framework.DefaultPage.Page_Init(Object sender, EventArgs e) at System.Web.UI.Control.OnInit(EventArgs e) at System.Web.UI.Page.OnInit(EventArgs e) at DotNetNuke.Framework.PageBase.OnInit(EventArgs e) at System.Web.UI.Control.InitRecursive(Control namingContainer) at System.Web.UI.Page.ProcessRequestMain(Boolean includeStagesBeforeAsyncPoint, Boolean includeStagesAfterAsyncPoint) --- End of inner exception stack trace ---

Not sure if this is a version 04.09.02 problem or something else.

But I don't understand the overall concept of language switching.  All I'm looking for is to display pages in English if the English flag is clicked and switching to French if the French flag is clicked. I don't care about admin functions (editor....) changing languages. I want a splash page where the user picks to enter in French or in English.  And when they are on any page in the site, they could also switch languages.

How would this work? I would need pages in English and French but there is no control in the Page settings to record the language. If I click on the "display in menu" for both the French and English versions of the same page then they will both show up in the menu.

I hope someone understands what I'm trying to say here.

Thanks

Sue

I strongly advice upgrading at least to 4.9.5, for a number of security and functional issues fixed - this might include the current one.

Thanks Sebastian.

I installed a brand new instance of vs 6.00.01.

I enabled content localization but I don't get the active languages dropdown menu found in the admin site settings as described in this blog : http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/B...

"Now if we visit Admin->Site settings, we'll notice a new dropdown at the top of the page listing the active languages for the portal"

I have 2 flags showing up, one for English Canada and one for French Canada.

I also have no localization section in the Page settings either.

I also posted this in a new thread. I wasn't sure if I should have updated this thread (like I'm doing now) or posted a new thread (which I did a few minutes ago).  Since I'm now referring to a new version of DNN I wasn't sure what to do.  Sorry.

Thanks

Sue

default language setting has been moved to Admin > Languages, where you activate "Content Localization" for the current portal, if you need it.
