Hello

After being away from DNN a while I installed a new portal today to try and get it integrated into our Active directory. I have read through some posts and also checked the step by step guide that was linked from this forum. I didnt get very far until I encountered an error. After filling out the Authentication "form" while logged in as admin, I pressed update and got this:

An error has occurred.
Error: Windows Authentication is currently unavailable.

I tried this on an clean install (nothing installed at all besides the automatic stuff that are in by default after the installation wizard is finished), on local IIS on a DB from a sql server express DB (not the mdf file in the app_data directory). I use SQL server authentication on the database, and have a specific user run as DB owner.

If anyone can give me some help I would really appreciate it.

Best regards

Torbjörn

PS How do I make the editor only jump one line down when I press Enter, rather than 2 which seems to be default? DS.

You may have to do the same as I did on our intranet. Look for the commented out line <identity impersonate="true"/> and uncomment it. If that still doesn't work then try changing the line to <identity impersonate="true" userName="domain\username" password="password" />. If that works post back here and I'll lead you through the rest of the changes you need to make to your DNN install.

To get the editor to only drop one line hold down the <Shift> key when you press <Enter>.

Thanx for the hint, that worked like a charm. I have been fiddling a little with my own user to check it out and it seems to work flawlessly. I have another question that originally was spawned from an AD guy I know, and that is how the passwords are transmitted from DNN login to authenticate with the AD? Are they sent in plain-text over http or through some sort of encryption?

I got the suggestion to add a certificate to the site to ensure that someone doest hijack the password that is sent, is that recommended when using AD integration with a DNN portal?

Thanx again for your help
Best regards
Torbjörn

I don't remember off the top of my head and can't double check at the moment (my HDD on my dev machine is dying and I'm trying to get an image of it before it's totally dead).
