I have a question in regards to Active Directory password synchronization with DNN. I have an Intranet instance of DNN and the users are automatically being added to the database when they navigate to the site. What I noticed is that when a user changes their password in AD the DNN password does not get updated/synchronized.

Is the functionality present today to do this and if so what is the configuration setting or does it need to be custom code?

Thanks

Dan

Hi Dan

In < DNN 4.5.5 the synchronization only happens on the first time a user logs in. Stuart Hilbert had changed the code so that synchronization happened everytime a user logged in for DNN 3.x and I ported it to work with DNN 4.5.5 and below (http://dnn.gmss.org). With the separation of the provider from the core for DNN 4.6.0 I added that code to the provider so that password/roles/etc. get sync'd everytime a user logs in.

If the user changes their password within DNN will is sync back to AD or will it stay the same password for that particular portal?

It will not sync back to the AD. It's a one way route. Also the next time they log in it should fail because the password they enter is authenticated against the AD.

That's what I guessed.  So I will need to disable the ability of the AD users to change their password as it will be misleading.  Is there a way to do this?
