G'day all.

I'm having a bit of frustration here. I recently I upgraded from 4.5 to 4.6.2. Yesterday I installed the AD provider, and that went well with no problems at all. Then the setup went fine (after me sorting out my Domain string was), so everything is great. But alas, I can't log in with my AD username and password. I keep getting the message saying "Login failed. Remember passwords are case sensitive.". Now I type my AD password around 100 times everyday, so I know it's correct.

I've been reading this forum all day today trying to find a thread where someone may have posted the same problem as I, but I have not found one.

Anyone have an idea what I could possibly do solve this little disagreement between me and the Windows Login?

Thanks in advance.

Liam.

I'll ask the obvious question first. Are you clicking on Windows Login before you're trying to enter your credentials?

Another possibility: How long is your password? By default the web.config has 7 characters as the minimum length and that overrides everything before it attempts to authenticate to the AD. If yours is less it'll fail. You can change the password length requirement in your web.config. I think it's called minPasswordLength.

Yeah I am clicking on the Windows Login button. Although I do see something strange with that. When I have clicked on Windows Login, entered my username & password, then clicked on the Login button, it switches from highlighting the Windows Login button, to highlighting the Standard button. I'm wondering if it is somehow trying to authenticate my AD credentials with the DNN Authentication. I Have both DNN & AD authentication enabled because I wasn't sure that I'd be able to log back in under "Host" to change the authentication back to DNN if AD wasn't working.

My password is 9 characters long. 8 lower case letters & 1 number.

It's normal for it to switch back to Standard on an error.

Your password more than meets the requirements. Are you entering your username as Domain\username or just username? It should be domain\username.

I've tried:

  • domain\username
  • DOMAIN\USERNAME
  • username
  • USERNAME

Two things I also want to mention.

1)  I checked the SQL server "Users" table and I have noticed that my AD credentials are in there. Also noticed that there was a date for the last login, although I have never been able to log in with those credentials.
2)  When I am logged in as "Host" and inactive for awhile, it automatically logs me out (which is what it should do), but it then automatically logs me in under an unknown account. Unknown because there is no name next to the logout link. I will try to see if I can figure which account it's login into by looking at the user table in SQL. I'll let you know what I find.
