thanks for the help mike.

Does that means that by using AD provider when a parent portal user visits the child portal for the first time then some sort of trigger will fire that will make that user a registered user of child portal by inserting his/her record in the user portal table also assigned that user roles(registered, subscriber) in the child portal? If that is so then it sounds good to me.

Other question is howcome i set the AD authentication provider.I am using 04.08.02  version.I guess its using the default authentication i.e DNN,live id and open id?

Sorry if i sound stupid but i am kind of a newbie in dnn

The user object is checked to see if it is a member of the portal and if it isn't then a record is written to UserPortals table making it a member of the portal. It's done in code but, yes, it's essentially a trigger.

If you didn't install the provider when you installed DNN you can get it from the project download page (http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Products/Development/Forge/Authentication/Downloads/tabid/852/Default.aspx) along with the documentation which explains how to install it. However, because you need it to work with child portals, I'd suggest downloading the 1.0.4 beta available on my site (http://dnn.gmss.org).

got the beta provider from your website.it worked wonders for me :) thanks.i wonder if there is any such provider avaialbe that works for web users aswell not just the ad users.

another question->when i use IDE default webserver then i am unable to go to child portals.even from the hostpanel i click on child portal url it doenst work.and am using static port for the ide webserver not the dynamic one.If i host the main portal on  IIS only then child portals are able to access. Is it a bug in IDE default web server?

You mean where a user can go to a child portal and just login even if he doesn't have an account on that portal but does on one of the other portals? I'd check the DNN Marketplace or Snowcovered. I vaguely remember seeing one before.

I'm going to guess it's a bug in the IDE web server but can't say for sure as I've always used IIS.

yeah that exactly what i means.Having a account on parent portal only and can navigate to all the child portals without having a account in child portal and the roles on the parent portal will be propogated to child portals.Since the number users and number of child portals will be huge so i dont want to flood the userportal table by inserting record of every user against every portal.
