Hi Mike,

I seem to be getting an error after I install the active directory module. The error appears when I go to Admin > Authentication. This is the error message:

Error: is currently unavailable.
DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.ModuleLoadException: Access is denied. ---> System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x80070005): Access is denied. at System.DirectoryServices.DirectoryEntry.Bind(Boolean throwIfFail) at System.DirectoryServices.DirectoryEntry.Bind() at System.DirectoryServices.DirectoryEntry.get_IsContainer() at System.DirectoryServices.DirectoryEntries.ChildEnumerator..ctor(DirectoryEntry container) at System.DirectoryServices.DirectoryEntries.GetEnumerator() at DotNetNuke.Authentication.ActiveDirectory.Settings.CheckPipelineMode() at DotNetNuke.Authentication.ActiveDirectory.Settings.Page_Load(Object sender, EventArgs e) --- End of inner exception stack trace ---

My setup this time is I'm using IIS7. So I don't know if the user (network service) is the same as in IIS6. I set DNN on IIS 6 last week with no issues. This time I followed the setup instructions according to IIS6. Is there something different with IIS7?

Hi Stan

It looks like it's erroring out when it tries to check what version of IIS 7 you're running (IIS 7.0 has to be running in Classic .NET mode). On every IIS 7.0 system I've tested it on it's come back with a nice little warning letting the user know that however on your system it looks like it's blowing up when it tries to find which mode IIS 7.0 is running in.

Network Service is the same as in IIS6 and it looks like I'll have to add some error handling to that procedure but I'm going to have to try to get a system that blows up on it first so that I can make sure I've coded around it properly.

One thing you could try is running under impersonation in your web.config as per the documentation and see if that gets you past that error.

Hi Mike,

Thanx for the help. It worked. I changed the application pool from .net to classic .net and set up impersonation.

One thing that worries me is that with the 1.4 version when I enter the auto ip string as eg: 196.0.0.1 - 196.0.0.254 then I getg an error message stating that this is not a valid IP address. In version 1.3 it worked fine though. Is there a bug or am I setting it up incorrectly? This happens regardless of the IIS version.

Hi Mike,

Sorry for being such a pest. I get an error with access denied when using impersonate with a different account to the one I was using earlier.
The access is denied to 'CoutryListBox' , I have a permanent account that I have to use. I have given this new user  full control of my root website folder and of the temp folder in Windows/Microsoft.NET/......... Am I missing something else? (again this is now on IIS7)

I really appreciate all the help.

I added some additional error checking to verify that the IP address was valid. In all my testing it worked fine but I'll setup a debug using the range you mention and see if I can break it.

Your permissions look fine. When you say you're using a different account than before you mean different from the first account that you used for impersonation? You might try restarting IIS and/or the application pool.
