I'm using a third party service provider to host my dnn site for serveral hundred external students (bandwidth reasons) but would like to use their internal college AD logons and passwords for authenication. I wouldn't want to have to duplicate credentials and maintain passwords on both systems :-( Microsoft provides such a technology in ADFS but I can't find any reference to someone implementing this in DNN.

Does anyone know of a method to authenticate users to an externally hosted site using the corporate Active Directory? I don't mind paying for such a module - I just can't find one. I assume someone out there must have done this!

Thanks, Steve

In all my research the web server has to be on the domain or have the ability to read from the Active Directory (trust setup). It's highly doubtful a 3rd party host would have those permissions and I don't think it would be a good idea security wise to allow an off site server access to the AD. There is a AD module out there (check the DNN Marketplace) but I don't know how well it works.

An option might be LDAP.  You can install LDAP on a domain controller which then allows generic LDAP authentication requests to be serviced without the web server needing to be on the domain.  You may be able to write a web service that resides on the domain, which a DNN client can then query to test authentication requests.
