<p>Hello,</p> <p>I spent a lot of time to get automatic logon working through the latest AD Provider 1.00.04 DNN 4.9.0.</p> <p>I am using Windows Server 2008 with IIS 7</p> <p>I want to achieve automatic login. I've read that it should be possible, if I logon via the following URL:</p> <p><a href="http://testserver2/DesktopModules/AuthenticationServices/ActiveDirectory/WindowsSignin.aspx"><u><font color="#0066cc">http://testserver2/DesktopModules/AuthenticationServices/ActiveDirectory/WindowsSignin.aspx</font></u></a></p> <p>I tried everything according the Documentation. (all combinations of Impersonations/ Windows Authentications/ NativeMode /ClassicMode) but had no success. Is there anybody out there who has this configuration working and who could send me the web.config.</p> <p>Accordung the docs the IIS should run in classic mode, but if I switch it to that mode, I get an Error Page, that IIS should be switched to FUll TRust or Classic Mode. Very strange that this message disapears, if I switch back to NativePipeline...</p> <p>Anybody out there who has some thoughts on this?</p> <p>THanks a lot!</p> <p>&#160;</p> <p>Alex</p> <p>&#160;</p>

I have the same issue. Even when I go directly to the WindowsSignin.aspx URL it sends me to the login screen. I have full trust and it's in my trusted sites, although it's NOT in classic mode because, as you said, it wont work with the site in classic mode.

I think it's worth noting that, when I disabled Anonymous Authentication and enabled Windows Authentication on WindowsSignin.aspx, it shows an alert that says, "Challenge-based and login redirected-based authentication cannot be used simultaneously." I figured htis is because forms Authentication is enabled, but it says that feature "has been locked and is read only". This may not be an issue since the directory has it's own web.config which seems to have a location tag to disable it.

I did find an interesting writeup on IIS7:

In Integrated mode, ASP.NET modules will receive the first unauthenticated request to IIS when Anonymous authentication is disabled

In Integrated mode, when an IIS authentication scheme other then Anonymous authentication is used, the first request from the client that does not contain the required credentials will be visible to ASP.NET modules in the BeginRequest and AuthenticateRequest stages. In comparison, in Classic mode an ASP.NET application would not see such a request because it is rejected by IIS with a 401 challenge before ASP.NET has a chance to process it.

This means that ASP.NET modules will see an extra request in the BeginRequest and AuthenticateRequest stages. The request will appear in Web events and in any custom logging done in BeginRequest or EndRequest.

Since I only need to use AD authentication, I ended up disabling anonymous and forms authentication for the entire site. That worked great for me, but when anyone else tries to pull up the site it just sit there loading and never comes up. I wonder if it's stuck in some sort of authentication loop...like forwarding you to the authentication page over and over. Thoughts?

This is a known problem. If you have Windows Authentication enabled in your web.config then you really don't need to have the AD Provider installed. You won't get the Role synchronization features but other than that it should work just fine.

The problem I'm having is that while WindowsSign.aspx has WIndows Authentication Enabled the whole site has Forms Authentication Enabled and I get that "challenge-based and login redirected-based authentication cannot be used simultaneously".

Now I can get AD to work in the Extensions tab with my AD account but when I try to log in, it tells me I have a bad password.
